Dr. Mathwich was born and raised in Clovis New Mexico and after a 5 year stint in the Marine Corps infantry moved to Albuquerque. There he received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of New Mexico and then Family Medicine residency training in Barberton Ohio.

After residency he and his wife, Andrea, settled in Longmont, Colorado. They raised 3 children, who are now grown and starting families of their own in Colorado, Alaska and California.

In 2021 Dr. Mathwich sold his Colorado practice and he and Andrea retired to Santa Fe in 2022. A confirmed workaholic, retirement only lasted 6 months and Dr. Mathwich returned to medicine part time at La Familia clinic in Santa Fe. After 6 months with La Familia Dr. Mathwich knew he was not the retiring kind, he still had something to offer, and in August of 2023 opened his own senior care clinic in Santa Fe, Ascent Medical Group.

Dr. Mathwich and his team at Ascent strive to develop a personal relationship with each patient, their families and caregivers. The Ascent team prides itself on communicating with their patients, ensuring all diagnoses and treatment plans are fully explained and all questions answered.

But the most important mission at Ascent is access.....we see new patients within one week and always make time available for urgent same day visits. We are available for urgent issues by phone 24/7 and will always see patients discharged from the hospital within 48 hours of discharge.
